The BETA version of Bow Software’s robotics software engine has been released. Bow is in the process of creating a general development environment designed to it easier to build and support applications for robotics. This BETA release of Bow supports three different robots, including Pepper and Nao from Softbank as well as PAL Robotics’ Tiago. One of the guiding principles behind Bow is that code should be independent of specific robot platforms. So developers can create robot-agnostic software.

This initial release supports C++ and Python programming languages. With BOW, developers can write code without having a specific, physical robot. Developers can simulate code on a virtual robot in the Bow simulation environment. BOW’s BETA SDK is only compatible with Linux-based code and applications.

The Bow SDK and streaming protocols allow for seamless deployment on the cloud, servers or even the robot itself. Support for multiple programming languages, make a flexible solution for programming robots. Bow also promises low-latency communication enabling you to control robots from anywhere in the world. This should enable developers to run apps in the cloud thereby bypassing computational restrictions on the robot, or teleoperate in real time with standard VR hardware.
